California English-Language Arts Content Standards - Grade 6

3.7 Explain the effects of common literary devices (e.g., symbolism, imagery, metaphor) in a variety of fictional and nonfictional texts.

Students will:
  • Identify the connections between Greek mythology and the characters and circumstances in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J.K. Rowling
  • Discuss how the Greek influences and symbols enhance understanding for the reader
