  1. Use context to clarify meaning of unfamiliar words.
  2. Use knowledge of root words, prefixes and suffixes.
  3. Use dictionary, glossary, thesaurus and other word reference materials.

Students will:
  • Read What’s the Big Idea, Ben Franklin? by Jean Fritz
  • Use the information from the reading and create an alphabetical description of Ben Franklin
  • Choose three letters to illustrate from their alphabetical descriptions
  • Use a dictionary to gain an understanding of unfamiliar words
