  • The student will listen to, read and discuss familiar and conceptually challenging text.
  • The student will use background knowledge of subject and related content areas, prereading strategies (previewing, discussing, generating questions), text features and text structure to make and confirm complex predictions of content, purpose and organization of a reading selection. 
  • The student will prewrite by generating ideas from multiple sources (brainstorming, notes, journals, discussion, research materials or other reliable sources) based upon teacher-directed topics and personal interests.

Objectives:

Students will:

  • Read or listen to 13 Little Blue Envelopes by Maureen Johnson.
  • Follow the various tasks and pieces of information given to Ginny through the use of letters to help her understand her aunt’s last journey and offer life lessons.
  • Keep track of the journey via a world map.
  • Use their prior knowledge of Peg and Ginny to write the lost 13th letter with an artistic envelope.
