M6N1. Students will understand the meaning of the four arithmetic operations as related to positive rational numbers and will use the concepts to solve problems: f) Use fractions, decimals and percents interchangeably. g) Solve problems involving fractions, decimals and percents.

National Council for Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM – grades 6-8):
Work flexibly with fractions, decimals and percents to solve problems.

Objectives:

Students will:

  • Understand percents must total 100 when talking about the same whole.
  • Know how to change a percent to a decimal.
  • Learn how to find the percent of a given number (ex. 80% of 200).
  • Practice multiplying with decimals and rounding to the ones place.
