Standards & Goals:	Georgia Performance Standards (GPS – 5th grade) M5M2. Students will extend their understanding of perimeter to include circumference: (a) Derive the formula for the circumference of a circle. (b) Find the circumference of a circle using the formula and pi ≈ 3.14. National Council for Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM – grades 3–5): Explore what happens to measurements of a two-dimensional shape such as its perimeter and area when the shape is changed in some way. Note that standards in this lesson plan are for example only. This lesson can be easily adapted to meet your state’s specific standards.
Objectives:	Students will: Understand that circumference is the perimeter measure for a circle. Recognize keywords and symbols used for circumference and circles (diameter, radius, pi, circumference, perimeter, sphere and center).
