Standards & Goals:	New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards NJ 1 (Reading) Determine both what the text says explicitly and what can be inferred logically from the text NJ 7 (Reading) Determine what is meant by words and phrases in context, including connotative meanings and figurative language NJ 4 (Writing) Support and illustrate arguments and explanations with relevant details, examples, and evidence Note that standards in this lesson plan are for example only. This lesson can be easily adapted to meet your state's specific standards.
Objectives:	Students will: Listen to an audio clip of a poem and discern tone. Participate in a class explication of the poem. Write a couple of paragraphs that make connections between the poem and the text.
