New Jersey State Core Curriculum Standards
Standard 6.1: All students will utilize historical thinking, problem solving and research skills to maximize their understanding of civics, history, geography and economics.
Standard 6.2: All students will know, understand and appreciate the values and principles of American democracy and the rights, responsibilities and roles of a citizen in the nation and the world.

Objectives:

Students will:
  • Define the two party political system in America.
  • Discuss the role of third party candidates in the presidential election.
  • Identify the third party candidates in the current or most recent presidential election.
  • Make a visual representation of the platforms of the current political parties running for the presidency.
  • Create their own third party and platform.
