Objectives: |
Students will:
- Listen to and/or read a portion of the book Code Talker: A Novel About the Navajo Marines of World War Two by Joseph Bruchac.
- Discuss the book literally and analytically.
- List at least four main events that took place before, during and after the Long Walk of 1863.
- Define the term the Long Walk as it pertains to Navajo and American history.
- Respond in writing to a quote from the book pertaining to persecution on Navajo Indians by the U.S. government and then their recruitment into the Marines to serve in defense of the country.
