New Jersey State Core Curriculum Standards

Standard 6.3: All students will demonstrate knowledge of world history in order to understand life and events in the past and how they relate to the present and future.
Describe the significant contribution of Renaissance and Reformation to European society, including major achievements in literature, music, painting, sculpture and architecture.

Objectives:

Students will:
  • Read and/or listen to Handel, Who Knew What He Liked by M.T. Anderson using the Power Listening Strategy outlined in the Learning Through Listening website under Classroom Teaching Tools - Strategies and Activities – Strategies.
  • Create a summary of the material by making a “piano key” summary of Handel’s life and accomplishments.
  • Listen to Handel’s Messiah and other works by Handel.
