Purpose:

To assist students in identifying various characteristics of an animal, character, or vocabulary term using a creative and interactive tool.

Introduction:

This graphic organizer can be used to assist students in creating an interactive “What am I?” card. Students can adapt this into a game, study tool or character study. Students will be able to analyze details and specific clues to a wide range of topics. This activity will aid in the acquisition of skills necessary to critical thinking.

Steps for Use with Audio Books:

  1. Identify the term to be described. Students may either chose the term or it can be assigned by the educator.
  2. Listen to the selected text.
  3. Use context clues to help create a list of facts and examples regarding the term or character.
  4. Students will create a list of clues that will help give the reader identifying attributes of the term but encourages critical thinking and deductive reasoning.
  5. Students will create an illustration to provide a visual aspect of the term. This may be covered up until the reader has guessed the term.
