ACCESS Strategy

Student reading book while listening to the title on RFB&D playback device

Congratulations! You are taking a huge step in helping your students with print disabilities access the curriculum; you are implementing RFB&D's AudioPlus® digital books into your classroom. Below is a quick acronym to help guide you through implementation.

A- Assess

  • Check your book and equipment order to ensure that you have the items necessary for successful program implementation. In addition to digital audiobooks and playback equipment, RFB&D also offers accessories such as headphones and splitters to enable use by multiple students. Visit the Players and Accessories section of the RFB&D website for more information.
  • Decide who, what, where, when and how the audiobooks will be used in your classroom. (Helpful hints can be found in the Teaching with Audiobooks section of this site.)

C- Communicate

  • Determine which student(s) will be using RFB&D's AudioPlus books and introduce them to RFB&D.
    • Tell students how learning through listening will benefit them.
    • Let students discover how the specialized playback equipment plays RFB&D's AudioPlus CDs and allows them to easily navigate through the book.
  • Inform parents about RFB&D's services by sending the RFB&D Parent Letter with any student using RFB&D's AudioPlus books. Download the Parent Letter in a PDF or Rich Text format.
    Download in PDF format
    Download in RTF format

C- Coach

  • Provide students with guidance on how they can effectively fit using audiobooks into their daily schedule.
  • Develop a cue with the students that designates it is time for using their RFB&D materials.
  • Encourage the students to obtain an individual RFB&D membership to use at home to complete their homework assignments or for reading books of interest to them.

E- Evaluate

  • Think about how you have been implementing RFB&D's LTL Program in your classroom. Some things to consider:
    • How has RFB&D's LTL Program affected student performance?
    • Has implementing audiobooks in your classroom changed your teaching style?
    • Are there additional students (with print disabilities) in class that would benefit from using RFB&D?
  • Talk with students after they have been using RFB&D's AudioPlus books to see if they have any questions or concerns.

S- Share

  • Tell parents, colleagues and administrators about RFB&D's AudioPlus books and their impact on:
    • Student performance
    • Student motivation
    • Student self-esteem
    • Meeting the needs of diverse learners

S- Success!

  • Celebrate the academic and social/emotional successes your students have experienced after using RFB&D's AudioPlus books.
